2021 Summer Camps

 * A half a day option (9:30am - 11:00am) is available for campers ages 5-7 

June 1 - June 4 (Ages: 4-6)
Art Play 9:00am - 10:30pm 
 
This delightfully messy art camp is full of sensory play and art making (with shaving cream and ice, for example). It includes age-appropriate art exploration and instructed projects.  Young campers will enjoy drawing, sculpting, printing, and constructing with varied materials. We have a wide range of projects, topics, and materials to spark the creativity and curiosity of our young campers, so no one (especially returning campers) ever gets bored. Each one of five Art Play camps is unique
 
The cost:  $85.00/4-day week
June 1 - June 4 (Ages: 8+) 
4-day Animal Art Mashup 12:00pm - 3:00pm*
Is your doll or another tiny creature in need of a beautiful place to live? If so, this camp is for you. The plywood houses will be our canvases for the week, and will provide an opportunity for each camper to design a house to their liking – whether it is for dolls, superheroes, animals, firefighters, policemen, or veterinarians. Each camper will paint and decorate their house by making wallpaper, artwork, furniture, and more. We will paint, print, build, sculpt and stretch our creativity muscle to see how we can up-cycle everyday objects to create one of a kind teeny-tiny houses
The cost: $155.00/4-day week

Teeny-Tiny House 11:30am - 3:00pm*
Is your doll or another tiny creature in need of a beautiful place to live? If so, this camp is for you. The plywood houses will be our canvases for the week, and will provide an opportunity for each camper to design a house to their liking – whether it is for dolls, superheroes, animals, firefighters, policemen, or veterinarians. Pirates & Mermaids 9:00 am - 12:30pm*
Avast, ye hearties, climb aboard and batten down the hatches as we sing a chantey tale of old! Plenty of loot to be had, lads and lassies. From treasure maps to blue lagoons and mermaid gardens, explore the ocean themes of pirates and mermaids during this 5-day excursion into building, sculpting, painting and drawing. Returning campers will be excited about this year’s new adventures and art projects.

June 7 - June 11 (Ages: 10+)  
The Art of Collage 4:00pm - 6:30 pm
Paper, fabric and found objects have been used by famous artists in the medium of collage for hundreds of years. By incorporating drawing, painting and stamping, students will learn new techniques and craft their own artwork from a wide array of materials.
The cost: $140.00/week 
June 14 - June 18 (Ages: 10+)  
Brilliant Botanicals 9:00 am - 1:30 pm
From creating beautiful cyanotype botanical prints to making a mandala inspired by
nature, summer is the perfect time to connect with the natural world and look around with curiosity and wonder. We will experiment with various processes and play with different art materials while carefully observing botanical subjects (Printmaking, painting, drawing, and more). Weather permitting, some of the classes will be held outdoors.
The cost: $245.00/week 
June 14 - June 18 (Ages: 4-7)
Art Play - II 3:00pm - 4:30pm

Quirky Birds Of A Feather 9:00am - 12:30pm
 
​Sing, chirp, hoot, cluck, flap, and peck! Students will create quirky bird sculptures and
paintings. They will use paint, model magic clay, cardboard, everyday materials as well
as found objects to create their own uniquely themed aviary for the most quirkiest, one-of-a-kind birds in the world.

 
The cost: $195.00/week

June 21 - June 25  (Ages: 10+)  
The Art of Bookmaking 3:00 pm - 6:30 pm

​A book is an art form that goes beyond turning pages. During this summer camp,
students will experiment with a variety of papers and materials to make their own
handmade journal, art book, sculptural book and a personal storytelling book. We will
learn about basic concepts and techniques for making handmade books (measuring,
cutting, folding, and tearing paper among others), while exploring various bookbinding styles.

 

The cost: $195.00/week 

June 28 - July 2  (Ages: 8+)  
 Fantasy Worlds & Mapmaking 9:00pm - 1:30pm

​If you were to make a map, so not to forget where you've hidden your treasure, what would it look like? Would you recognize that you are in possession of a treasure map if you happen to get your hands on it? What would your fantasy world where treasures are hidden look like?  We will use drawing, painting, collage, and sculpting with clay and cardboard to make maps that will take us on adventures into fantasy worlds of our creations where many treasures are hidden. Let's go on a treasure hunt!

July 6 - July 9  (Ages: 8+)  
4-day Teeny-Tiny Doll House 9:00am - 1:30pm*

July 12 - July 16 (Ages 10+)

Self-Expression in Art  9:00am - 1:30pm

Come to camp prepared to learn more about your personal relationship with art. We will explore the world of aesthetics and what goes into art making. Through observation and special attention to detail, students will learn about the fundamentals of art and design. The subject matter may include portraits, landscapes and still life, or anything that strikes the camper’s interest. A range of media, art forms, and inspirations will be explored including drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture! Engaging projects are organized so that students are working on a similar theme, but with freedom for each to be creative and add their own ideas.

July 12 - July 16 (Ages 6-9)

Animal Mash-up Art 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Create bizarre animal mash-ups using a variety of media. Imaginations will run wild as you explore collage, drawing, painting, and clay and cardboard sculpture all based on the theme of fantastical hybrid animals.

July 19 - July 23 (Ages 4-6)

Art Play – IV  9:00am - 10:30am

This delightfully messy art camp is full of sensory play and art making (with shaving cream and ice, for example). It includes age-appropriate art exploration and instructed projects.  Young campers will enjoy drawing, sculpting, printing, and constructing with varied materials. We have a wide range of projects, topics, and materials to spark the creativity and curiosity of our young campers, so no one (especially returning campers) ever gets bored. Each one of five Art Play camps is unique: Art Play IV is NOT identical to Art Play I-III & V

July 19 - July 23 (Ages 8+)

Fairies & Robots 12:00pm - 3:30pm*

Nuts and bolts; sticks and flowers; glitter and glue. Mix well. Then sprinkle with stories of fairies and of the worlds inhabited by robots. Combine lots and lots of creative juices with the mixture and steep for five days. Voilà! Make room for the amazing projects your camper will bring home at the end of the week. Returning campers will be excited about this year’s new art projects.

July 26 - July 30 (Ages 8+)

Theater In A Box   9:00am - 1:30pm

(The Snail & The Whale by Julia Donoldson)

Lights, shadow, action! This week’s camp is ALL about putting on a show. Drama has enormous learning benefits for children and their development. Students will design and sculpt all the puppets – the characters in Julia Donaldson’s “The Snail & The Whale” story - create miniature box theaters, draw and paint all the scenery, and will get ready to present their own puppet show in front of the audience at the end of the camp. Students will get to take home their miniature box theaters, the scenery and the puppets. In this session students will also create various types of puppets using paper, clay, mixed media, paper mache and more. Become part of the ancient tradition of puppet making and puppeteering all week!

August 2 - August 6  (Ages 10+)
Painting, Drawing & More 9:00am - 1:30pm
During the five days of this session, our time will be divided between the classroom and drawing & painting outdoors.  We will make observational drawings and will draw from imagination as well. We will use a variety of materials to learn about shapes, space, drawing techniques, color mixing, paint handling, and printmaking. We will make sculpture drawings, narrative drawings, still-life drawings, large scale drawings, tiny drawings, landscape and botanical drawing, self-portrait drawing. We will explore paint and its many forms to make large scaled paintings, collaborative paintings, self-portrait paintings, abstract paintings, black and white paintings. We will make our own stamps and printing plates – the subject matter could be anything that strikes students’ interest!
